Firemen responding to combine blaze
Firemen from Crittenden County and Sheridan volunteer fire departments were dispatched to a the Glendale area shortly before noon today for a farm equipment blaze. A combine was reportedly fully engulfed in fire, and the blaze had spread into a field.
Trick or Treat on Main is Changed
Due to inclement weather conditions forecast for Wednesday, Marion Main Street Inc., organizer of the Trick or Treat on Main Street program, has rescheduled trick or treating for Tuesday from 3:30 to 5pm. Crittenden County Judge-Executive Perry Newcom and Marion Mayor Jared Byford are encouraging families in the county and city to do their trick-or-treating Tuesday night, as there is a strong chance of storms all day on Halloween. "We think it's best for the safety of everyone," Newcom said Monday afternoon.
Jr Pro Rockets undefeated, again
Crittenden County's Junior Pro third- and fourth-grade Rocket football team completed its second straight season undefeated by beating Webster County on the road Saturday. The boys will try to win back-to-back post-season jamboree championships this coming weekend at Trigg County.

River Road in Livingston closed at Birdsville
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close a section of KY 137 (River Road) in Livingston County tomorrow. River Road will be closed at the 3 mile marker in front of Birdsville Campground to allow a cross drain to be replaced, along with additional drainage work. This closure is three miles north of the US 60 Birdsville-Y and is between Desert Storm Road and Maple Lane in Birdsville. Work should be finished around 3pm. M otorists may self-detour via KY 763 and US 60.
Work underway for disc golf
Click Image to Enlarge Marion Tourism and the local park board have teamed up to build a disc golf course at Marion-Crittenden County Park. Park users are already seeing preparation work along the old railroad area of the walking trail where inmate crews are clearing paths from the park complex to the Victory Gardens property. Plans are for the 18-hole course to built using both properties. Each property is owned by the public. The course should be ready for play by spring. It was designed by H.B. Clark, a noted disc golf designer. Pictured is a overlay depiction of where each of the holes will be located.

Paving on US 60 from Marion to KY 1668
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will be paving along a section of US 60 in Crittenden County starting on Tuesday. The area where paving is planned is between the red light in Marion at the intersection of US 641 and Crittenden Springs Road (KY. 1668), a distance of just over two miles. Milling has already been completed along this work zone. This work zone will include the segment in front of the high school. The job is expected to take about 10 working days, weather permitting. Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers and paving personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Convenience center, animal shelter closed Saturday
Crittenden County Convenience Center and the animal shelter will both be closed Saturday due to an emergency.
Hospital sale gets thumbs up
County leaders today gave Crittenden Health Systems directors approval to move ahead with the sale of the local hospital. The first step for government officials was accepting a sealed bid for the property, which occurred this morning. Now, the hospital board of directors will work to finalize the deal before next month's regular meeting of the Crittenden County Fiscal Court. Negotiations are ongoing and some details will be hashed out in the coming days and weeks, but it appears that the sale of the hospital to the company that has been managing it for the past year is imminent. No driver's testing Oct. 26
There will be no written or road test in Crittenden County for prospective drivers on Oct. 26, according to Circuit Clerk Melissa Guill.
First responders working crash on Claylick Creek Road
UPDATE : When first responders arrived at the scene, it was determined that the victims were out of the vehicle and appeared to not have any serious injuries. ORGINAL POST First responders from Crittenden County and Salem responded to a single-vehicle injury accident on Claylick Creek Road near the Wolf Creek Bridge in the rural southern part of the county. The accident happened about 7pm. EMS, Crittenden County Rescue Squad, Salem Fire Department and the sheriff's department have all been dispatched to the scene.

Truck crash between Fredonia and Eddyville
UPDATE : Site is clear. ORIGINAL POST According to Kentucky Department of Transportation and the Lyon County Emergency Management there is a truck crash on US 641 between Fredonia and Eddyvile, just south of the Caldwell County Line. Although the roadway was open at 5:30pm, it is expected to be closed while recovery of the large truck takes place. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.

Deer Lakes Golf Course burglarized
Livingston County Sheriff's Department is requesting the public's assistance in solving a burglary at Salem's Deer Lakes Golf Course this weekend. Clubs, golf bags and other items were taken from the course's cart sheds late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. See The Crittenden Press printed edition for more details. Anyone with information regarding this burglary can call the sheriff's department at (270) 928-2122 or the Kentucky State Police at 1 800-222-5555. A cash reward could be available.

Crittenden County Fiscal Court on Tuesday approved a measure that could set in motion the sale of Crittenden Hospital to an outside firm. Some have said it is perhaps the most important matter in recent county history, and clearly, local leaders spent several weeks pondering the proposal. Crittenden County Judge-Executive Perry Newcom presented magistrates with a five-page summary of his Findings of Fact that was developed after researching the issue over the last few weeks. Crittenden County seeks bids on hospital
Crittenden County Fiscal Court met in special session on Tuesday with magistrates agreeing to a measure that will likely result in the sale of Crittenden Hospital to a private healthcare company. Dump truck crash closes 60
A dump truck crash is blocking US 60 near the Crittenden-Union Line in the lower Rosebud area near the intersection of Blackford Church Road. The dump truck was hauling gravel which will have to be cleared from the roadway. Both lanes are blocked and traffic is being detoured until after 11am, according to transportation department officials. A detour has been established via Ky. 365.
County leaders to meet Tuesday on hospital
Crittenden County Fiscal Court will hold an emergency special meeting at 10am Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the courthouse to discuss whether or not the court is interested in moving forward this month with advertising for sealed bids on the auction of the hospital property. If the court wants to deal with this issue at next week's regular fiscal court meeting, KRS requires that notice of sealed bids be published and made public at least seven days prior to the opening of those bids. The fiscal court will meet in regular session at 8:30am Thursday, Oct. 18. This notice was issued at 9:25am Monday morning by Judge-Executive Perry Newcom. County leaders have for a few weeks been contemplating a proposal by an outside firm to purchase Crittenden Health Systems, the non-profit organization that operates the hospital and other local healthcare services. The hospital property is owned by the county and can only be sold through public auction.

Voter registration deadline Tuesday
The voter registration deadline for the Nov. 6 election is approaching. Kentuckians can register and update their registration with GoVoteKY.com. Crittenden County Clerk Carolyn Byford will accept online and paper applications until 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9. For questions, contact Byford at (270) 965-3403.

Farmers Fri-Day on Main Street
Farmers Day, the annual celebration hosted by Farmers Bank and Trust Co. of Marion, is drawing big crowds today with summerlike temperatures. County leaders deliberating hospital future
UPDATE : The court adjourned just before noon without making a decision. It will continue to gather more information before revisiting the issue. ORIGINAL POST Crittenden County Judge-Executive Perry Newcom, county magistrates and other leaders were still in a private, closed session at 11 a.m., on Thursday. The meeting had begun at 8:30 a.m. The Crittenden County Fiscal Court spent several hours deliberating the future of Crittenden Hospital during the executive session, where the public is not allowed. It was unclear whether a formal decision would be made today. A vote on the matter must be held in public.
Volleyball girls at Trigg for Monday's district
Pairings and schedules are complete for Monday's Fifth District volleyball tournament at Cadiz. The No. 1 seed Lady Rockets (20-3) will play the nightcap Monday following the semifinal game between Trigg County and Livingston Central. The semifinal starts at 5:30 and the championship match begins immediately afterwards. Crittenden has already earned a berth in the regional tournament – which will be at Union County – by virtue of having a first-round bye and top seed in the district. The top two teams from each district advance to the regional.
Gilchrist makes cut at state golf tournament

ORIGINAL POST Crittenden County junior Lauren Gilchrist shot an 81 in Tuesday's opening round of the Leachman-KHSAA Girls State Golf Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club, good enough to get her into today's final round. For the first time in three appearances in the state tournament, she has made the cut and is teeing off this morning at 9:30am in the championship round, 9 strokes off the current leaders, who shot even par yesterday. Gilchrist spent last night not knowing whether she'd made the cut or not, because bad weather had postponed part of the first round. Several golfers had to complete a few holes early this morning before the cut could be determined and the final 18 could be played.
